Ishiuchi Miyako

Ishiuchi Miyako was born 1947 in Kiryu-city, Gunma and raised in Yokosuka, Kanagawa. In 1979 she has received the Kimura Ihei Memorial Photography Award for her series and exhibition "APARTMENT". Her representative works include: "Mother's", in which she photographed her mother's body scars and belongings; "Hiroshima", a series in which  she has captured the personal clothing and artifacts of the Atomic Bomb victims; "SILKEN DREAMS" on silk and weaving mills, as well as Meisen silk kimono - Ishiuchi continues to work on the themes of skin, clothing and time. In 2005, she represented Japan at the Venice Biennale and had since been well acclaimed worldwide with her early vintage print works collected by Tate Modern, etc. Her most recent series is "Frida by Ishiuchi", in which she has documented famous Mexican female painter Frida Kahlo's personal artifacts. In 2014 Ishiuchi received the prestigious Hasselblad award, and her upcoming solo exhibition titled “Postwar Shadows" will open at the J. Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles in October 2015.
